It was infuriatingly directionless of Circe to drop this into Harue's hands and expect her to be able to unravel the mysteries it held. She'd created it solely for this exercise however, so Harue knew that it wasn't anything dire or even particularly important. Regardless, she wants to understand the device as much as Circe wants her to crack open the case. 

The device itself is small and spherical, and fits perfectly in the palm of her hand. It looks pieced together by scrap parts of something, though Harue isn't nearly as versed in material as she should be to know. It offers no hints to her in anyway, but activating her Tasukeru reveals traces of chakra coursing through it.

Looking at the chakra that's moving through the small device like blood through the veins of a human, Harue tries to unlock any potential secrets hidden in the way the chakra moves inside of it. She thinks about the chakra lore she and Circe had discussed and how she can apply it here, and realizes that that's what Circe is getting at in the first place anyways.

The device, which she desperately wanted to affectionately refer to as an egg, wasn't spectacular. The precision with which it was put together was obviously Circe's own work, and upon reflection she realizes that the chakra coursing through the device was similar to Circe's own.

Harue hums with thought as she carries the small device around with her all day, looking into it and through it, past it and at it as much as she thinks it might help. After some consideration, she takes it outside to the courtyard and sits with it in her hand, laid over her crossed legs as she sort of meditates with it. It's odd, and she knows Circe wouldn't be shy to point out the flaws in her methods, but Harue would continue how she saw fit.

With the device in her lap and her meditation underway, she begins to try out a few ideas she has. First, she begins to channel a small portion of her own chakra into the device to try and combat Circe's, in an attempt to feel out the layout of the chakra inside.

Using her chakra to try and find a pattern in the chakra inside the device, Harue hopes her chakra could act as a sort of key. But through her Tasukeru, she could see that there were no gaps in the filling. If there were, Harue's theory might have been correct, but without any places for her chakra to fill up, it was unlikely. She cuts off the flow from her palm to the device, saving her chakra for the Tasukeru she activates again, to peer back through the device.

She studies it closely and looks for any other hints to a theory she might be able to run with. Maybe she was using the wrong kind of chakra to try and activate it. Looking into the device in an attempt to understand the type of chakra that swirled through it, Harue was worried she wouldn't have the means to unlock this simply due to her specializations.

After a few more trial and errors, Harue grunts and hoots with frustration when the device won't activate for her. She's not even sure how to know that it has activated - she keeps her Tasukeru activated for this reason alone now, because she's sure now that looking at it from the inside out wasn't going to progress her much more than it already had. Of course, it hadn't been completely useless - there was just nothing left to grasp from it, was all.

Harue, in desperation, begins to flail her arm around violently, sporadically activating a flow of chakra and manipulating it in or around the device in different intervals. She was, quite frankly, annoyed by this small device and its refusal to cooperate with her.

All her swinging and flailing of the device seems to do something good, either to the chakra she attempts to use to unlock it or to the device that had been so previously adamant in denying Harue what she wanted. And what she wanted was to simply understand, and even as she activates the device, she realizes that that's still very unlikely. 

Just because she can get the device to work for her, doesn't mean she's going to really understand why it did. At least not in this situation. Unless, of course, she used her working knowledge of chakra lore and theory to break it down into steps she can understand. The device, she notes, unfolds from the top like scales falling apart from something it originally conformed to.

Even after the small device has folded open and carried out what the activation of it entails, Harue can see the chakra still inside it. It was still the host to chakra - or was it vice versa? Regardless, it could be reactivated (or deactivated, honestly) in the same manner it was previously activated. At least, she could only assume. The device itself is just as unspectacular as she assumed. The point of it was more the same point a rubiks' cube had.

The point was to complete the puzzle, not be rewarded by anything. That much is clear as Harue plucks out the small note folded inside. It simply reads 'Dunce Pink,' a hopefully endearing nickname Circe uses in place of Harue's name. The pinkette rolls her eyes and sticks the note back in, trying her best to close the device physically. It strains, and doesn't budge.

Despite having watched it fold open as easily as butter melting in on itself, Harue can't even begin to fathom the strength it would take to close it back up without chakra. The same, in retrospect, could be said for prying it open in the same manner. But because she doesn't even know how she opened it in the first place, of course she'd have a bit of trouble trying to close it again. It's not like Circe wrote a handy manual for the damned thing.

Maybe if she flailed it around a bunch again, it would work. Maybe that's how Circe programmed it to work. Or maybe she'd just done so many things in one fleeting moment, that one of those things was the thing she needed to comprehend and repeat. She sighs but doesn't give in to the urge to go and seek out Circe for answers about her handmade device.

Using her Tasukeru, Harue examines the device again, but this time she compares it to what it had looked like before she'd opened it. She wasn't sure if she could replicate the same blind luck she'd had before, and in the long run she shouldn't rely on luck anyways. There's not much of a difference to find though, except for the rate at which the chakra flows through the device. And...

Harue couldn't believe she hadn't realized it before, when she'd first activated the thing! The direction that the chakra moves through the small device has completely reworked itself, moving counter clockwise now as opposed to the clockwise motion it had been circulating earlier before.

Harue knew that this wasn't how every chakra device worked, but she was thankful that she recognized this small detail finally. Even though the temperature was dropping a bit as the sun went down, the summer air kept Harue just warm enough outside to where she could stay out and continue her training. Now that she knew the most important detail about the device, she could utilize that knowledge now.

Perhaps that's how she got it to work before - the violent movements of her flailing and the flickering usage of her chakra must have knocked the chakra in the opposite rotation, which had activated it. Harue only knew this after the fact however, and she'd have to learn to understand a device first before attempting activation.

Regardless, activation was activation. De- or re-activation was all the same tango, just reverse in steps, right? Harue uses her chakra, attempting to match the type of chakra the flows inside of it as she also tries to reverse the flow. She does this in a similar way that two different solutions would mix where one is stirred first in one direction, and then in the opposite in the same moment.

It didn't work to only turn some of the chakra backwards, as the current of the rest of the chakra would only sweep it back into line. It had to be a sudden disruption that would upset the flow all together, so that it could shift it entirely in one motion.

Harue is inexplicably relieved when she discovers her hunch had been correct and the device begins to work backwards in retaliation to her activation of it. The inside-out sphere slowly reforms, creating itself once again as the small globe it had been prior to messing with it. She uses her Tasukeru to watch the progress, to try and define to herself how the chakra works with it. Chakra couldn't work too much differently in different devices, as it always had the same basic components to be worked with.

There were only so many ways chakra could power a device, but what the device it powers does is perhaps limitless with the correct amount of chakra. She notices that this small device is relatively weak in terms of chakra hostage, but she's sure that much larger things, or things that accomplish more, require more chakra than that.

Once she's studied the small device a bit more, Harue finally seeks out Circe to tell her she'd done her silly task. But the cat is a step ahead of her and jumps her as she skirts around the corner. "You've finished yet?" She drawls, coming up behind Harue in the dark as she sits outside under the stars still. Harue twists up her face but laughs. "Yeah, it was easy when I figured out you gotta change the direction of the chakra."

Circe nods her head sideways, eyes stuck to the top of her head. "I made it relatively easy for you. I didn't even add any special requirements to the chakra nature - but that's not the hardest with a little guidance." Harue tilts her head curiously, and she doesn't even have to ask what the cat means.

Circe goes on to explain to Harue that sometimes, activating something chakra related might require special types of chakra. And there are, indeed, many different kinds of special chakra, as well as different kinds of combinations of those types. All of which could be emulated with some practice, which Harue was genuinely relieved to hear.

The thought of being unable to activate some device just because her specialties don't align sounded honestly infuriating. So Harue listens intently as Circe explains somewhat backhandedly about how Harue can shift the nature of her chakra in fine detail. As fine as you can explain an abstract concept.

For some reason, Harue seems either unwilling or hesitant to believe Circe when she goes on about emulating certain requirements. She wasn't Hyuugan, how could she emulate the clan's heritage just ever so briefly to open a chest? It was a strange idea and Harue felt almost inclined to think Circe was setting her up for a foolish display of Harue's dim wits. Apparently, she was just being cynical - Circe tried her best to make her understand.

Demonstration was key, apparently. But instead of using the activation of a device as an example, this time she uses the crossing of a barrier. While she's no expert on creating those either, she does have some old knowledge and utilizes it to the best of her abilities. "Alright, try to walk through it," she coaxes. Harue eyes her wearily.

Harue had been right to be weary. Though she cannot see the barrier with her naked eye, she can indeed see it once she activates her Tasukeru. At least Circe wasn't pulling that kind of fast one on Harue, but there were plenty of other openings for the cat to make her look foolish. Afraid of this, she first tests the barrier with her hand, not wanting to walk into the likes of some sort of wall. Her Tasukeru reveals nothing particular about it however, none that she recognizes. 

And, of course, she wasn't wrong. The barrier was trained against her, solid and immovable. Ironically, it was blocking the same way into the house, so Harue couldn't turn around and walk away from this either. She lets out a sigh and nods to Circe. "Okay, and?"

Circe scoffs and explains that evil beings may pass the barrier, which made Harue scoff in return. Circe passed through it flawlessly, but Harue accused her of pulling some trick there too, and even claimed that it wouldn't work for Circe since she created it. Circe assures her that she only could pass because she was evil herself. She reverses the tables and makes it so only the good may pass, and she cannot pass. 

Because Harue is neutral herself, Circe assures her this will bet he easiest test run. It wasn't as easy to turn from polar to polar as it was to shift tides slightly, but the two would becomes seamless eventually. Harue doesn't believe her until she's able to finally slip past the barrier, with a few annoying tips from Circe. At least they could be translated to other situations easily, too.

While Harue could have given up utilizing her cat as some sort of teacher, Circe had other plans. The next morning, the day before Harue's scheduled to go meet back up with Matsunaga, the black cat pulls out a book far too old to be one of Harue's. The pinkette begrudgingly sits with the cat only to read more about these 'undead' creatures she wanted to share with the young kunoichi. The book starts out rather simply, discussing actual undead.

Namely were the once-humans, who claw their way up from the earth and feast on brains. Must be compensating for the distinct lack of their own brain, but that part my just be mythical. After all, she didn't even really believe in zombies outside of necromancy.

Apparently it wasn't all just about the creatures themself, but also the lore and theorizations behind them all. As such, Harue gets to read a little bit more about souls, something that she has a particularly piqued interest in for sure. She takes the book from Circe when she sees the chapter on it, pulling the reading close so she can read it enthusiastically. It also detailed spirits and the afterlife, which all tied nicely in with the prospect of souls.

There's also a portion on smiting, "Godly vengeance," which seems far outside of the realm of what Harue and Circe are studying up on. Regardless, she gives that a quick skim as well, but soon she'd move back to the creatures.
