A real oddity, a Mist ninja that couldn't use the Water release and preferred sand of all things, arrived on a secluded beach carrying a large abundance of sand in a gourd on his back. As there was plenty of sand on the beach it wasn't necessary here, but everywhere else required him to carry around that blasted tub of particles. It was always a relief to take the damn thing off, which Haru wasted no time in doing. He sat down to wait for his new teammate so he could begin training, all the while making a blob of soft beach sand dance gracefully above him.

His comrade had yet to show up and playing with the stupid ball of sand was getting boring, might as well do what he came here to do. Out of the minuscule little orb of fine sand he focused more of his chakra into the blasted thing, changing its shape to that of a four-pronged star and hardening it. With a flick of his wrist he sent the floating weapon out towards a small island a few meters from the shore, putting a sizable gash in the trunk of a juicy palm before disintegrating.

From his laid-back, relaxed position he rose to his feet and flooded the beach with chakra and floated a small part of it at eye level. After making lightning fast hand seals, focusing his chakra and hardening the sand into the commonly accepted shuriken shape, he targeted the island tree yet again, there where five shuriken now, as opposed to one, and all were in greater control than the first one. However, when he commanded them to hurdle at the challenging island only about three met their mark, the others splashed a couple of feet behind the sand bar. As a ninjutsu master this exercise was far from strenuous but, as always, training was tedious and time consuming. Not that he had anything better to do, nobody really liked him except that other nin that never showed up, which shows just how well liked he really was. Once again the sand rose and formed five shuriken, the only difference is that Haru focused a little harder on this set, which caused all five to bite deep into the flesh of the tree.

The jutsu stated that he could create fifteen shuriken with just five meters of sand, and since he could control twenty-five total meters that added up to . . . a lot of sand shuriken. He spread his chakra out farther and took five meters of sand under his control, he would focus on making all of the shuriken one by one, until he had fifteen. Any less than fifteen he would adjust the sand content of the others to make fifteen, any more then he would be very happy with himself. As one would expect, fifteen perfectly formed shuriken appeared before him which flew at quick speeds at his target. With a few mid-flight adjustments they all met their mark and made one tree very unhappy. The concept was easy enough, every five meters he could create fifteen shuriken, so all he had to do was treat every five meters separately and he could indeed have his full payload without too terribly much effort.

Although, a little bit more practice couldn't hurt. This time he accepted ten meters of sand into his control and spread it out five meters on either side of his body. He concentrated on each floating pile separately and soon had thirty sand shuriken surrounding him, this seemed a little to easy, the shuriken were forming with so little effort it made him feel like he wasn't doing it right. But looking at the tree he was targeting there could be no arguing the effectiveness of these grainy projectiles. There was a rock beneath the against the tree that looked like they it was holding the tree up, and vise versa, which became Harus next target. His goal this time was to send the shuriken in two different directions, colliding with both the rock and the tree at different angles, which in all reality wouldn't be that hard. The cluster on the right took off and rounded out to the right then back at the rock, while the cluster on the left took off in the exact opposite path, both colliding with their corresponding targets in perfect sync. The rock received a little corrosion while the tree took the brunt of fifteen sand projectiles and fell over, revealing that it was indeed holding up the rock due to the fact that the rock fell along with it.

Effect: The user creates an ice weapon of any shape or size, depending on the amount of chakra the user has, from a body of water. The weapon's liquid-like structure is an excellent medium for sound and can use sound at a much larger capacity than just with your bare hands.

Description: The user summons up water from a near by body of water, the size of a fist; the water can then be shaped into a weapon of any shape, and any size depending on the amount of chakra the user has. Once the shape and size of water is determined, it is hardened into a dense ice, as if it was an actual weapon.
Limit: Blood limit of Haku

Suna Hogo Sochi no Jutsu (Sand Shield)

Effect: The user slams his hands down on the ground, bringing up a large amount of sand around him into the air to block attacks. This technique is as strong as the user and is strong against those who are equal or lower in class then the user themselvs. This technique lasts for three rounds but the user is capable of gaining more time with this technique if the user keeps training into the technique. The more the user learns the longer it is capable of lasting.
Special: "Handseals" Slams their hands to the ground.
Drawback: This technique only lasts as long as the user trains into the technique. This technique also has a very large drawback which is that the user can not be within five feet away from the technique. If the user does so the technique will then fall apart.
Description: The sand Shield looks like a massive dome. As the user performs their seals and slams their hand down to the ground the sand rises up and covers the user in a massive dome of sand. The user is unable to see outside of the sand and would need the technique of the third eye in order to help the user. The massive dome condenses with the sand as the sand hardens greatly allowing a number amount of protection against the opponents who wish to do harm. This attack however is quite weak against Lightning attacks.

Well, the two foreign nin had eluded him and he still had yet to see that one Kaishin guy ever again, so with nothing better to do Haru got back to training. To his great surprise, the guy he had met earlier, Asano or something like that, was there waiting at the beach he had promised to go to a long time ago. He made a single sand shuriken and sent it crashing into the sand about a foot from the newcomers turned back. That should get his attention.

As he got to the beach, he looked around for his friend, who was nowhere to be found. "Oh well, might a well as work on kuri buki..." He walked down to the water's edge and let the waves wash over his feet as he looked out to sea,calming himself. He started by creating a kunai, he could already do that much fairly easily. now for the next stage...but what should it look like... I know, a- a sound like sand hitting sand interrupted his thoughts.

Brandishing the kunai, he spun around, ready for whatever was behind him...but it was just Haru, "Hey there, beach ninja..." he said as he lowered his kunai, "sorry I'm late, but my alarm didn't go off."

"My familiarity shouldn't cause you to let your guard down, Asano." With that fifteen more shuriken erupted from the sand at Harus feet, flying straight at Asano. Because of the fact that they were indeed on a beach there would be no shortage of sand, so he wouldn't bother being stingy with the sand projectiles as he would normally. This beach wasn't like the sunny, palm-encrusted oases one usually thinks about upon hearing the word "beach," it was foggy, the water was icy cold, rocks and seashells littered the sand, and the sun was nowhere to be seen. Quite a bleak setting, but one Haru found to his liking, darkness suited him better as he always found himself seeing better on cloudy days and at night. The sun was more of a bother to him anyway, whenever he went out it perpetually gave him a headache and he couldn't open his eyes all the way, so this depressing arena would do perfectly.

He knew the ways of the Kaishin well, having spent most of his life being teased by them, and knew that this perpetual mist and icy ocean would also give his opponent certain advantages as well, including an abundance of water and ice for jutsus. The sand here was full of little rocks and seashells that pricked his bare feet, but also would add little globules of extra toughness to his sand. Although, he was indeed training a defensive technique, but he couldn't practice defense without first being attacked, which is why he sent so many shuriken at Asano. They did just as much damage as normal shuriken but dissolved on impact so they would leave little sand particles in the wound as well as the high velocity grains grinding ever more flesh away. In all reality they were no more deadly than regular projectile weapons, just more painful.

Damn, Asano was now refusing to react to his greatest provocations, which proved incredibly annoying. Forget about him, training was more important than this guy right now.

Haru started by raising his hand in front of his face, commanding a thin layer of sand to shoot up in front of him. From there he held the sand in place and focused on it, the jagged edges of the sand sheet began to smooth over to a perfect elliptical shape, until it resembled a flat, floating oval of sand that covered Haru from ankle to his head. Basically this was nothing more than a thin layer of particles that looked prettier than the uneven uprising he had produced before. The overall defensive abilities of this floating shape were no greater than before and that wasn't quite good enough.

With the levitating oval in front of him he concentrated on thickening and widening it, adding more and more sand to the ever-growing defensive mass. The ellipse grew in girth and width until it was a perfect circle approximately a couple of inches thick and large enough to completely cover Harus entire body even with the gourd. The only thing now was to test the effectiveness of this floating disk and decide where to go from there based on how well it performed against Asano, assuming he ever decides to attack. Unfortunately, strength could not be achieved if all he ever did was wait, and that was all he was doing now, waiting. It needed to stop, this guys refusal to respond was getting in the way of training, and that was unacceptable.

Regardless of Asanos next action, Haru now took time to give his floating pie-plate of sand some shape. He put his hand out in front of him, causing the middle of the sand to bulge out slightly, he then commanded more sand to rise up on the inside of the new shape, thickening it and adding more to its edges. The fact that it was floating was draining more chakra than he had expected, but he couldn't just drop it and start from scratch, so he lowered it to the ground and used more sand to anchor it down. A chance was taken at this point, as he reduced the amount of chakra holding the disk together, which turned out to be exactly what he hoped to accomplish, the half-dome kept its shape. However it was still quite thin, too thin, so he layered more sand on the inside as well as the outside, increasing its thickness to about four inches and successfully creating a perfect half-orb in front of him. This would protect him from any frontal attack that came his way but the back was still exposed, that was cause for later concern.

[Damn, still not my best post. Don't worry, this one will be spectacular]

Not good enough, nothing Haru did ever seemed good enough, including this. The half-dome he created not a moment earlier collapsed in a heap of dust and seashells, leaving Haru once again without a shield. The only thing left to do was start from scratch, however this time he wouldn't bother waiting for Asano to react.

He focused his chakra, flooded the sand around him with it, and took command of his full capacity of sand, a whopping twenty-five meters. With this new command he tried a new tactic, instead of building it up right in front of him, he would rise it up on all sides an inch at a time, all the while making each inch thicker than the last. The shield started as a circular uprising of sand only about a few grains wide and with barely enough room to fit his whole body plus his massive sand gourd within, but quickly grew to a whopping two-inch tall protrusion that still barely fit him and his gourd. This ankle-high mound that surrounded him was barely enough to keep an ant out, let alone any kind of attack, but it was necessary to take this slow so as to make sure he did everything perfectly the first time, there was no room for error in a combat situation. But, two inches was no where near enough, as Haru was over five feet tall, so he kept forcing it to increase.

At about three inches high and less than half of an inch wide this shield was no more impressive than it was when he started, but it was progress nonetheless. He would be forced to keep the sand coming from both directions to keep this wall rising, which was no problem considering he was on a sand beach. When the wall reached five inches high and a full inch wide Haru still wasn't impressed, he was building it up at a good rate but he still took it an inch at a time so as to avoid mistakes. Six inches, seven inches, eight inches, all so not good enough to serve any purpose except maybe to mark a boundary on a playground sandbox. The tiny wall was compressed immensely, so even though it didn't offer much protection in itself it would still be particularly difficult to kick down by a disgruntled playmate. While the sand kept rising and thickening Haru kept joking to himself, it kept his mind off of the fact that he was getting nowhere fast.

Nine inches, ten inches, eleven inches, one foot, finally one-fifth of the way to being any kind of decent protection. With the sand barrier successfully high enough to protect him from a shin-kick Haru was finally finding himself able to take heart. Even though there was damn near no defense to be found in this little retaining wall it was still something, still proof that this wasn't a futile exercise, still reason to keep going. He increased his vigor to raise the wall even higher, there was still a long way to go, until he was at a foot and a half with two inches of thickness to be found. As an extra little bit of practice, in addition to making the whole circular wall rise up, he sent a small column of sand the proper hight as a reference to himself what his goal was. Two feet, two feet two inches, two feet three inches, up until his whole thigh was completely protected, this time it still wasn't anything impressive but it was quite a bit thick and getting bigger every second.

a sand shield eh... this'll be tough to get through. crouching, asano got into a ready position, if he ever finishes it. he then pulled water out of the mist into his blade, but he couldn't quite get it to solidify. looks like I'll have to stick to small things for now for now... he thought dropping the extra water, and forming the remaining cubic foot into senbon.

damn, not good enough he quickly threw the senbon into the air, pulled more water from the surrounding mist, and, quickly doing, in order, the dragon, rat, and dog hand signs, formed it into another handful of senbon. no! all the senbon he formed, both in his hands and in the air, collapsed back into water.
dammit Doing the hand signs again, he grabbed water from the mist, but instead of solidifying it, he held it in it's liquid state, and decided to gradually pull more and more water into it centimeter by centimeter.

Asano focused on the form he wanted it to take, a wakazashi. He sent his chakra into the mist, to pull more water into the weapon. Drop by drop, it took on the form of a wakazashi, well, at this point it's more like a tanto. The handle was fully formed but too small, and the blade, much too short, it only used about two cubic centimeters more than the kunai. need to focus harder... Asano pulled a little more water into it, increasing the blade length to about six inches. Not...enough...

Asano closed his eyes and focused, sending his chakra into the weapon, helping it keep its shape, as he pulled as much water out of the air as he could, increasing the blade's length to nearly a foot. [ii]but the hilt's still too short...same with the blade.[/i] Pulling still more water out of the air, he began to increase the size of his weapon further, past that of a wakazashi, to that of a kodachi.

At this point the air was getting rather dry. As the humidity dropped, and his body heat raised the temperature, the mist around him began to clear. I'll have to pull water from th ocean Asano thought as he felt the mist dissipating. He began to pull water from the sea into his weapon, gradually increasing its size. It reached the size of a kodachi after a few moments. still not big enough He pulled more water into it, its size surpassing that of a kodachi, and heading towards that of a katana.

Any moment now... more and more water built up into the blade. It was nearly five feet long, it was coming close to using the full two cubic feet of water...just a little...bit...longer Asano began to develop a headache. have...to...keep...going He pulled more water into the blade, his weapon was finally at six feet. It used about two cubic feet of water now. finally

Asano focused his chakra into his weapon, freezing it solid inch by cubic inch...His weapon finally ready, he got a firm, two-handed grip on it and opened his eyes, he could see that Haru's sand shield was getting bigger. It was already up to his waist...I'll have to strike soon

[man, I am sucking it up today. this one wont be much better but believe me, a masterful post is coming]

Asano finally got going, finally found his stride, whether this was good or bad was yet to be decided. His blade getting bigger and bigger was a good indication for Haru to build his shield up higher to create better protection, lest he get decapitated by the ice-blade thing forming in the hands of his opponent. A sudden revelation, when the shield was formed fully he would have no idea where his opponent was, created a complication in his plans. Haru halted the growing of the shield as a whole for favor of crouching low and using the sand he already possessed to form the dome on top that was characteristic of the shield. He was far from mastering this technique but at the moment it was a fully formed dome of sand that covered Harus crouched form and would hopefully put a halt to any attack that came from his adversary. Of course there was no real way to test just how good this shield was unless Asano attacked.

Asano swung the sword twice to get a feel for it. "perfect" he said as he crouched down and sprung forward. He saw Haru stop forming the sand shield, and decided to aim for his midsection. After all, he wanted to test his jutsu, not cut his friend into sashimi. As he got right up close, Asano suddenly stopped and putt all of his momentum into the swing. But as the blade impacted, it snapped, sending ice shards flying into the air... and at Asano's face. He managed to turn his head, so as to avoid any permenent damage, but he still got cut by a few shards.

Grasping the bleeding cuts, Asano jumped back, preparing to try again. Need to make it harder, alot harder... he said as he focused his chakra and began to pull water back into the blade...

The most damage sustained from the ice blade belonging to Asano was to Asano himself. The shield, however, had a large gash put through the top of the dome, which he hadn't reinforced, and caused it to collapse on his head. The whole top half of the dome fell inward, the section that would have covered his thigh was still standing, as well as the upper half of Asanos blade embedding itself near Harus leg. It was obvious that the weak blade had shattered on impact with his equally weak shield and sent shards back to Asanos face. Haru remained completely unharmed and he normally would have used this little happenstance to dispatch his opponent, but not this time around, this time he was purely for defense. Instead, he took the time to reform the ceiling and layer it to match the thickness of the part that didn't collapse. He made a small hole on the side of the shield that Asano wasn't at and Shunshined [1/3] out of the beach.

Asano focused his chakra as he pulled all the water he needed to reform his blade, this time putting more chakra into it, making it stronger. "Now, for round two!" Asano yelled as he dashed forward, cleaving through the sand shield, leaving just a pile of sand.

"What the hell?" Asano wondered, "Where'd Haru go? Oh well, might as well finish training this technique else where..."
he said as he walked back towards town but first I need to get lunch.
