A doctor came behind the fellow Nara and beaconed myself to follow him. Another prey to heal. “I would love to stick around and chat, but my volunteer work calls! That offer, if it still stands later, I would love to take. Ta-Ta!” I simply walked out of the waiting room I was in and followed the doctor out. Apparently, my skills were getting better. The doctor didn’t talk to me, only gestured a hand to a room with a patient in it.

I sauntered the into the room and grabbed the medical chart a nurse had filled out before. There was laceration on the man’s upper back. Swelling has occurred around the wound, most likely caused by infection. The man is running a fever, almost well over forty degrees. “Well mister...” I paused for a moment looking down at the chart to get the man’s name, “..Inuzuka. Well I be damned. Your clan is always in my care. Why do you have to make my life harder?” I pouted a bit before standing beside the man, who was only moaning in agitation and pain. The nurse must have hated this patient for not numbing the pain at least. I sighed once more, rolling up my sleeves. The injuries required more finesse and energy than what he was used too.

With acute focus, my hands turned a deep-sea foam green. I slowly put my right hand on the Inuzuka’s forehead, feeling the intense heat from the fever wash into my own flesh. Pouring my own energy into the skin was only to ease the slight suffering the man felt. It would make it easier to work with a more still patient. A slight shiver could be felt, was it from me or feverish chills, I did not care. The infection in the wound was what was causing the intense fever. I rolled the man over onto his stomach to gather a look at what I was dealing with. A deep gash, from his left shoulder blade, down to the lower back of his right side. It was an impressive wound.

My left hand gently traced the outline of the wound. It was a sickly black color, stained by the Mutt’s blood. A bit of necrosis. Whatever had attacked him had a nasty claw. The healing energy in my hands slowly stopped the flow of the dead skin, allowing the body to have a break. With the necrosis stopped, the fever should go down just a bit. But the dead skin needed to be removed. Starting back on the left shoulder, I concentrated my energy on the two centimeters width of dead skin. Slowly, the dead skin began to peel off. I went down the wound, slowly scraping off the dead skin, allowing fresh, clean skin to form.



Thankfully, the gash was in the process of congealing together and blood wasn’t oozing out. The gash was approximate six centimeters in width at its best. I did not trust that there were no bacteria collected in the congealed blood. It was like scraping off the dead skin, but I had to simultaneous mend the wound together to prevent the blood to flow freely. I inspected the depth of the wound and it clear reached past the tissue and muscles, barely scraping the bone that was slightly exposed. The doctor that was at the door’s entrance, inspecting me, merely said that I would have to clear the wound of bacteria and other infectious diseases, mend the damaged bone, then allow the muscle fibers to reattach all at once in order to proceed properly, without harm to the patient.



I said in annoyance. Healing these dreadful people at the hospital was not my forte. Obnoxious people come in to be healed for anything. Or dumb enough to get severely injured. Instead of using one hand, I brought my right hand next to the left, allowing for my focus to be micromanaged better. My energy was freely flowing into the body of the Inuzuka. The bacteria around the wound, what felt like, thrashing, before succumbing to my energy and deteriorating. The man’s natural immune system would be able to properly fight of this infection again if the same wound was applied. But this was only a fourth of the wound. The scapula was slightly chipped, but was easily rectified. The way I healed with my energy, is allowing the body to accelerate the natural healing a body undergoes by taking the resources from their own body. In this case, the man will need IV or another source of supplements to ensure his body balances out afterwards.

I did not find any other infectious diseases bar the bacteria that was growing in the laceration. The scapula was mended fine, but the spine was, luckily, intact. There was a slight chip here and there on the disks, thankfully, it did not puncture any of the actual nervous system. That was above my level currently. I drew the necessary minerals from my own body, to carefully recreate the missing bits of the exposed spine. Once that was done, I quickly pulled the muscle fibers, stretching them, together. I continued this practice on the remaining part of the wound. I pulled away, taking a deep breath. The man’s back would be stiff until the muscles grew back to normal shape and size.

I inspected the laceration one more. It was still freshly red, blood slowly covering the muscle fibers and the skin wanting to mend together. I was almost done. I had to mend the tissue together to allow the dermis to heal on its own. In essence, a huge scab. I went back into the work, hands glowing vibrant once more. A cruel smirk plastered on my face, realizing what I need to do. My chakra quickly left my hands and into the awaiting wound. The chakra began to pack into the opening. All throughout the laceration was my healing chakra. “Now, Inuzuka, my chakra is packed in the gaping wound you so cleverly got. Do not fight my chakra, do not touch the chakra, and do not use any chakra. How long the wound takes to mend together is by your own stupidity. Do not be stupid, okay?”

Clueless. That was the expression that I was receiving. “I packed your wound with my healing chakra. Give or take a few hours to a day and your body will mend the skin together naturally. You will be stiff until your muscles get stretched and healed fully. There will be a scar. As I said before. Don’t be stupid. Any other questions? No? Ta-Ta then!” Rael ignored the frustrated look on the Inuzuka and simply walked out of the patients room.

The nursing character ensures that the injured party is drinking sufficient fluids and provided with food that he can keep down (and in fact does so). Additional responsibilities include changing bandages, keeping watch for infections and excessive bleeding and applying cold compresses to relieve fever. First Aid providers can also perform critical care (a.k.a. battlefield medicine). If they can tend to a wound within an hour of it being inflicted (and make a successful Average difficulty skill check), their palliation restores 1 Armour Point of damage from that wound. Michio walked into the patient care center, the boy was excited to start work once again. As usual he wasn't in any damper mood to start his hours at the clinic, it actually was quite the opposite. Michio was eager to expand his medical knowledge today. As he was walking up to the front desk Michio's mind raced with all the things he might be tasked to do today; the most likely scenario was that he would be put to the usual nursing duties, like patient upkeep and such. But whatever he had to do he was prepared, Michio had brought his first aid textbook along with him today; if he suddenly blanked he'd have his book to rely on. He had the thick book nestled securely under his arm as he reached the front desk.

Looking down at the receptionist, Michio put on a greeting smile and said to her, "So what do we have going on today? Anyone needing any assistance?" Right after finishing Michio realized how stupid that was, of course someone needed help, it's a hospital. But the lady didn't seem to notice and she then handed him a clipboard, "Well we do have a few people with some cuts and bruises that could be treated pretty quickly, you could handle those. And a couple of longer-staying patients could do good from a check up." Hearing that Michio bid the woman a farewell and he moved off towards the first room on the list.

Ducking and maneuvering past other doctors and patients, Michio made it to his first patient's room door. The door was already cracked a little, so he pushed it open and entered. His patient appeared to be a white male, mid-fourties, and moderately healthy looking; but as Michio moved a to a spot a couple of feet in front of the man, who was sitting on the bed, he saw that the man was holding a blue towel to his left arm. "Oh, so I see that you had a little incident there. Well need not worry, I'll help you with that." Michio walked to the man's side and reached for his arm, taking the towel in his hands and gently pulling it away. Michio then grabbed a gauze and after soaking it in water, he proceeded to gently wipe the brownish, dried blood, which covered a three-inch area around the wound, away. Michio leaned in and inspected the wound, the actually wound seemed to be a one-inch slash, a laceration. Michio saw no significant or alarming signs of infection around the wound. "Nothing serious it seems." Michio remarked to the man and himself partially. Just to be safe Michio decided to disinfect it anyways; he then put his hands together and shaped them into each handseal, and doing it over again, Michio channeled chakra into the ends of his index and middle. Blue chakra then surrounded the two fingers, he pressed his chakra-covered fingers onto the wound and moved them across, this action earning a sharp intake of breath from the patient. After disinfecting the slash, Michio canceled the technique and he reached for a bandage. Unfurling it, he then wrapped the white cloth around the man's arm, covering up the cut entirely. "Well that should just about do it. Your body should handle the rest of the healing from here on out, but remember to change the bandages too."

The doctor wanted me to continue my training. He said that my potential was increasing and that I should be able to start on regrowing people's limbs shortly. But he said that I had to learn how to heal more serious and deadly wounds. It was going to be another day treating idiots who do not know how to be cautious. "Well, doctor, let us continue then. Who is the first idiot of the day?" The doctor had a forced frown, not wanting to laugh at the truth I spoke. He guided me to a room and all to behold there was a familiar sight. An Inuzuka was here once more. But she was in bad shape. She was trying to perform one of her clan's techniques and failed.

"This is why you do not perform techniques that you cannot handle." I sighed and the idiocy that a few of these members posses and went to work. There was a gapping laceration that showed the spine clearly. The nurses stopped the bleeding but there was still chance for infection. But what caught his eye though was that there was a bit of spinal fluid leaking ever so slowly. The spinal cord has ruptured slightly and the vertebrae was slightly of kilter. Focusing my chakra into my palms, the pale, sea green energy engulfed them.

It was always a good requirement to do a basic diagnostics of the bodies function and that is what I did. She had a fever, which told me that she had an infection from her wounds. She held signs of fatigue, skin pale and sickly. She must of lost blood. Enough for a transfusion. I signaled with my hand to let the nurse in the room to begin a blood transfusion. "Wait till I close the laceration then begin the transfer." It was quick work getting rid of the infection. A simple wash over with my healing energy and I felt the bacteria get trapped and destroyed by my chakra. I needed to close the small rupture that was present or she could easily end up paralyzed.

It was different healing the spinal cord. The white and grey matter was a different composition that I was not used to. I began slowly, allowing the flow of chakra to slow and focus on the small tear. The clear fluid stopped dripping and the tear was slowly healing. That was a good sign. Now for the broken vertebrae. The green energy held the bone in place and began to mend the two pieces back together. "The spine is healed now. The recovery for such action will be a few weeks. I estimate six. Do not over burden yourself." I was not sure if the woman was paying attention to what I was saying or was in too much pain to care. I shrugged and began working to close the laceration.

As I did with a previous patient, I cut off the dead skin that was growing slowly and allowed the skin to accept new growth. The healing chakra took hold of both sides of the wound and began to slowly stretch and mend back together. But before it could complete, I pushed enough chakra to compact and hold everything to allow the muscles to slowly heal together once more after it accepts the chakra. "The wound is now closed, begin the transfusion." The nurse only nodded and began the process. Colour was coming back into her skin, he breathing was coming out more even. Another sweep of my hands told me her fever was down, but a clear liquid was seeping from her nostril, and I could tell it wasn't snot.

It was the same fluid from the ruptured spine. "It looks like you have a fracture, or a tumor in your brain. Oh let us hope it is the former, hmm?" My face was bored, expressionless. The glowing hands were on the woman's head, inspecting it. "Lucky girl, just a fracture" I felt the pieces of the skull that was fractured as my chakra entered her cranium. She screamed as the piece of her skull cracked and began to mend. I frowned when I felt that there was weakening somewhere in there and shook my head. "There is weakening in the covering of the brain. Doctor, I rather have you do such precise work." The doctor only nodded and took over healing.

"Good work Rael. You are ready to begin the process of regrowing limbs."

"But before you are able to do such thing. There is one more thing missing on this patient. Tell me what it is and heal it and I will give you authorization." The doctor told me and I obliged. MY hands glowed green once more and I did another diagnostic scan.
The area of the spine that I healed seemed off. But then I remembered that the ligaments that held the vertebrae together was missing. "I forgot to heal the ligaments when I mended the vertebrae back together." The doctor smiled and nodded and motioned me to heal the mistake. I felt the compacted chakra in her laceration wound, but forced additional chakra to go past that and reach the vertebrae.

It felt as if it was beginning to heal the ligament, but not fully. I didn't want to re expose the wound to the open air again, so I had to focus more in depth than I would if the wound was open. After a while I felt that the ligament that held the vertebrae together was successfully mended and the doctor checked my work and gestured me out of the room, knowing I would say a smart ass remark.

Kyodai entered into the triage treatment room garbed up in his hospital scrubs. He had most of his gear from the previous mission as he had yet had time to do more than drop it off in his locker. So in his locker in the doctor's changing room was his Kunai over a dozen of them, in a Tactical vest, his leg rig, and his bag with books and potions. Even his personal medical devices were in there as in this he was in the fully equipped hospital and would not need his personal stuff.

He had quickly donned the hospital scrubs, a face mask, and hair cover. His eyes were even covered with the goggles required to wear while dealing with possible contamination. His face mask had a re-breather in it just in case of disease. Since the page only gave him the emergency level he was walking in somewhat blind. But his X-ray vision could already see the patient the other medical personnel were working on. It was a youngish shinobi of 25 who seemed to have multiple serious lacerations to his body and legs.

Somebody did quite the number on him Kyodai thought as he entered the emergency triage room. One nurse was holding the man down as he thrashed in pain screaming. Another was trying to get vitals, as a third tried to stem the bleeding. Kyodai wasted no time to putting a light healing aura onto the man as well as a pain relieving one to get them the time they needed to fully assess the situation.

As they stabilized the man. Kyodai realized something more then the slashes were wrong. As the medical team with Kyodai was trying to stop the bleeding, there was additional tissue tearing happening according to his medical senses. Kyodai could literally see inside the man and saw there was a compression type of arrowhead buried beneath the mass of injuries. Whatever happened to this man, someone really wanted him dead and not just disabled.

The past two weeks had provided Hirokazu with an amazing opportunity to further develop his medical skills. As he stepped through the lobby doors, a feeling of excitement overtook him and forced a smile on his face. The Crisis Control Clinic had become a sanctuary to Hirokazu: a place where he felt at peace with himself, his experiences, and his future. Every day, at 12:00PM Hirokazu met with one of the Clinic’s physicians to review the day’s assignments. While only in the initial phases of training process, Hirokazu had shown potential in both managing his chakra, as well as responding to emergency situations.

Hirokazu’s first step into the staff room was followed by a loud greeting, “Kazu! Perfect timing. Ya know, we have that in common”.

Another smile swept across his face as his eyes met those of his current mentor. “Glad to hear that”, Hirokazu responded. The staff room was quite empty with only one other individual present.
Hirokazu's mentor, Tokido, patted him on the back as he took a seat at the table.

Hirokazu placed his medical pack onto the large white table. While the bag was mostly filled with various medical documents, provided to him by his mentor, Hirokazu had become accustomed to always carrying it around. “So what’s on the agenda for today, Sensei?” Hirokazu asked as he sat on the wooden chair beside the table. Tokido smirked, “Time to talk foundation. Before we move on to the next medical technique, we should review some of the important concepts of first aid.” Hirokazu nodded before responding, “That sounds good to me.”

Hirokazu entered the patient room after his sensei. No patient was currently placed there, but the medical supplies available provided an optimal learning environment for the basic skills. Hirokazu grabbed a nearby first aid kit and placed it on the patient bed. The sheet covering the bed was a light green color in contrast to the plain white kit. “Let’s start with your personal protective equipment”, Kazu’s sensei stated as he pulled a pair of nitrile gloves for his student. Hirokazu grabbed the gloves from his sensei and swiftly placed them over his hands. Kazu anticipated his sensei’s next request and demonstrated the proper method for removing and disposing the gloves. Hirokazu ensured his technique was careful. Tokido provided him with a second pair of gloves and placed a gauze pad on the bed, “I’ve suffered an abrasion on my right arm. Pretend the blood is dripping down my forearm.” Kazu nodded and carefully placed the gloves over his hands. The key components of this lesson were to ensure proper protection was utilized to reduce the risk of any potential exposure to infection, and to demonstrate proper control of bleeding. Hirokazu reached for the gauze and placed it over the wound. Pressure was applied to help initiate the clotting process and reduce blood loss. His sensei nodded, “Correct, and by elevating a person’s extremity you may further prevent blood loss depending on the injury.”

"One of the major first steps of treatment involves determining the extent and severity of the emergency." Hirokazu nodded his head as he recalled the various steps of the assessment process. The acronym ABC came to mind as he thought:Airway, Breathing, & Circulation. "I'll be assigning you to shadow one of the Nurses today. It's important you develop a strong foundation. I know you already learned how to perform certain medical techniques, but forget about those and try to focus on the knowledge needed. Focus on hydration, oxygen levels, and steps of the initial assessment."

Hirokazu eyes lingered for a bit before he nodded, "I understand". A soft smile emerged as he remembered how satisfying it was to have successfully learned multiple medical techniques. Patience was needed for this type of training. Patient was pretty much needed for all kinds of training and that was something Kazu needed to remind himself. As he exited the patient room with Tokido, a woman with dark brown hair approached him. Her light green eyes stood out against her fair skin. "Hey Tokido! This must be Hirokazu, correct? I'm Kanata one of the Nurses." Hirokazu waved his hand and gave her a warm smile.

"You can take over from here Kanata. See ya later!" Tokido said as he made his way in the direction of the cafeteria. "Let's get started Hirokazu", she said as she led the way towards a patient's room, "As you may already know, this is one of the patient rooms typically provided for new patients." Hirokazu entered the room and followed Kanata to a patient lying in a bed. From his first observation, the patient seemed to be experiencing some sort of issue with his breathing.

"Tell me what you see?" Kanata asked.

"His respiratory rate seems to be pretty high, almost as if he's struggling to catch his breath." Hirokazu answered. "Take a second to further observe the patient. I'll be relieving his issue shortly." Hirokazu focused his gaze on the patient's face. His expression gave off an obvious feeling of distress. His nostrils, flared open for each breath. As Kazu's eyes focused on the rest of his body, he noticed that he was hunched over and his chest rise and fall was very short and quick. The situation seemed like an emergency, which is why Kanata quickly provided him support with his breathing. "With patients who are experiencing issues with breathing, there are typical signs that involve the use of accessory muscles, flared nostrils, and a higher respiration rate. Take a look at the other patient's chart while I work with this one. Be prepared for some questions, I already treated that patient." Hirokazu nodded and quickly moved to the next patient.

Description: Relevant Abilities: Perception Skill. Die Rolls: 1 Die Roll. Check Requirement: Described. This skill allows the character to properly tend to the sick and injured. While some basic medical knowledge is inherent in this skill (to the extent such can be said to exist), the character’s role is to provide an optimal environment to facilitate the patient’s own recuperative abilities, by monitoring the patient and tending to his needs as required. The most basic need for any patient is food and drink. The nursing character ensures that the injured party is drinking sufficient fluids and provided with food that he can keep down (and in fact does so). Additional responsibilities include changing bandages, keeping watch for infections and excessive bleeding and applying cold compresses to relieve fever. First Aid providers can also perform critical care (a.k.a. battlefield medicine). If they can tend to a wound within an hour of it being inflicted (and make a successful Average difficulty skill check), their palliation restores 1 Armour Point of damage from that wound. Note that each individual wound may only be treated once - if the remedy is botched no subsequent aid is possible. Injured characters under the care of a First Aid provider (of at least Novice mastery) heal their wounds significantly faster, reducing the number of rest days required by one per category (a full day cannot be reduced below 1). When a caregiver becomes a Master of First Aid, he reduces the number of rest days required by two per category and can fractionalize days at the end of the healing process. Hirokazu greeted the next patient with a warm smile, "Good afternoon, my name is Hirokazu. I will be supporting the Nurse in your care today." The patient nodded their head and turned towards the window facing a nearby row of trees. Hirokazu grabbed the finished tray from the patients table and refreshed the cup of ice water. After tidying up the patient's section of the room, Hirokazu turned to the patient's chart and read through the medical information. The patient was admitted due to a laceration on their arm. First aid was provided through the combination of both minor healing hands and a gauze bandage. Pain was eased through medical jutsu and the patient's lungs were supplied with chakra support. Hirokazu noted the use of the oxygen supply jutsu that he had recently learned. He imagined it must have been used due to the emotional response of the injury resulting in a sort of anxious response. After reading the chart Hirokazu assessed the bandage and made note of the amount of pressure being applied after it was tied around the gauze, a technique he would be sure to use in the event of a bleeding injury.

After finishing with this patient, Hirokazu approached the third admitted patient who was fast asleep. The patient's chart detailed dehydration and mild starvation. Hirokazu noticed that the patient was elderly. He wondered what would have led to these medical issues. Is the patient alone? Do they have support outside of the hospital. These questions often came to mind as he imagined his elderly neighbors who had no children. As he returned to the chart he made note of the a medical technique used for treatment called hydrate. Highly nutritious and high caloric food was provided at lower portions to help ease the person back. This patient would most likely be admitted for longer than a day. All of these observations and methods of treatment gave Hirokazu valuable first hand patient experience.

After discussing the patient cases with Kanata and providing accurate answers to all of her questions, Hirokazu was assigned to tend to the injuries of a patient with minor abrasions. 

After closing the door to the patient room, Hirokazu dipped a clean towel in lukewarm water. "How are you feeling Mr. Yamato?", he asked. Prior to being assigned the case, Kanata had eased the pain of the multiple abrasions that covered his chest. "Totally fine, now that the stinging has gotten better. What's next?", Mr. Yamato responded. Hirokazu wrung the towel with his glove covered hands, but made sure to keep enough moisture in order to properly clean the blood off his skin. "I'll be washing the blood off, and then I will heal each wound. They're shallow enough that I should be able to finish this without any support."

"Ah", he exclaimed, "You're in training. Good luck! I've got plenty of time. But hey, aren't you going to disinfect it?" 

Hirokazu began to wipe the blood off of the patient's chest, ensuring that he applied enough pressure, "No need to. The healing process will clear the wound of any potential pathogens. Won't even need a bandage since it's minor enough that my skills should clear it completely."Although each wound was quite shallow, they were deep enough to warrant the use of the healing hands technique. Hirokazu wiped the last remnants of the blood stains and disposed of the towel in the bowl. "Alright, now to close these wounds." Hirokazu placed his hands over the first wound located directly on his right pectoral muscle. The medic-in-training began to focus deeply on the chakra coursing through his own body. A tingling sensation appeared in the palms of his hands and his fingers as chakra forced its way forming a green aura around both his hands and the wound. After some time, the wound began to fade and the wound gave off a steam of some sort. Hirokazu performed the same technique on the remaining wounds.
