The boiling sun beat on Kei's neck. He wiped some sweat on his back. Kei sat at the edge of a white empty dock. His ankle dangled back and forth, like a pendulum. The cool water was very comforting to him, relieving him of his daily troubles. This was to be one of his daily rituals. He finally proceeded to actually train.
He stared deeply, entranced with the subtle waves. It was mesmerizing, really. But he had work to do; he could relax later.
The technique called for a ready water source. Check, he was at the edge of a dock. It also needed a target. Kei searched for something that could float. If it floated, it could be hit. He found a piece of wood, probably a debris of a recent shipwrecked storm. The piece was large enough to be hit, though Kei would've preferred a bigger target.
The Kaishin sighed deeply and chucked it into the open sea. He stared into the water intensely, as he performed the hand seals. When he finished the last hand seal, he yelled, "Senpabanpa No Jutsu", trying to will the water to move. He didn't even get an inch. To a normal onlooker, Kei would've looked like a complete fool. Well, that's why he was glad to be alone. Of course, he had expected to fail the first time, so he didn't get frustrated. Instead, he took another deep breath and tried again.
This time, he performed the hand seals at a much slower rate, focusing more on the technique. At the final hand seal, he didn't yell, rather he whispered it calmly, just to remember what technique he was doing. He had a tendency to forget what technique he was doing if he didn't repeat the name of it. This time, two triangular shapes shot out of the water, nearly three feet high. Kee-resh was the sound of the waves. One came on his right side, the other rose on the left. But just as quickly as they came, they descended back into the depths with a baritone-ish splash. "Great", Kei grumbled to himself, "I've got the shape, but I just need the movement." And more waves, he thought.
"Well, third time's the charm", he said to himself, in a mildly weary tone. So he did it again, this time at a much more comfortable pace. The water began to take a slight glowing shade of cyan, as if there was something radiating at the pit of the ocean. Kei's eyes widened, unconsciously now standing at the tip of the pier. Four triangular waves rose near the white plank of wood's right side. These were a height of what Kei guessed was four feet. Then, another four rose up on his left side. These waves were a little bit smaller, around a height of three and half feet. "Makes sense", Kei said matter-of-factly, as he was aware that he was right handed and it was only natural that his left hand side was significantly less dominant.
The waves looked like larger variations of the natural ones that had hugged Kei's legs earlier. Each of the larger riptides had white ripples in the middle, and each swayed naturally, at ease. Kei enjoyed this feeling of control. He took a breath, saying "Step one, complete. Commencing step two". He slowly grazed his right arm across the horizon. It took perhaps half a second later (which would feel like ten minutes for Kei), but the waves shifted their movement closer to its pallid target. Even the white ripples in the middle made an up and down movement, like a natural wave that would wash ashore.
Kei kept his right hand in its current position. Now, with his opposite hand, he willed the left currents to switch their current position to engage closer onto the plank. These waves moved at a slower rate. But Kei was patient enough to watch them close in on their target. As he did so, they nearly touched the plank. Nearly, as they melted back into the water before it could graze the left side of the floating chunk of wood. "It's a start", Kei said.
