Jäger felt the weight of his training resting on his shoulders.  After days of clearing and lifting debris from his home; he found that he once more resided in the Rust District.  The cleaning had not taken long, what had taken longer than anything was finding new furniture to bring back in and to furnish his home.  The spacious warehouse had gone from dilapidated and uninhabitable, to somewhere he could come home to for relaxation, and also to train.  Strangely for the Hoshigaki, it felt good to be back in his childhood home.  He could not quite explain why.  Where the old punching bag had been, there was a new, far larger one that was chained to the walls and the floor by multiple thick lengths of chain.  The behemoth understood his great strength and had planned accordingly, considering he was only going to get stronger.  The air was always calm in this place, as the soft white noise of the rain kept one relaxed and centred,  

The bright orange robe that usually donned his great body had been discarded, and the Whale Shark stood poised; shirtless with a crimson sash tied tightly around his waist, and his lower body covered with a pair of baggy black leggings that tightened around the ankles.  Bandages were rolled around his massive hands; a whole roll unfurled to cover merely one of his appendages.  Jäger was in the mood to train.  Eyes closed and hands clasped in front of him; he focussed his mind on the task at hand while the rain continued its dull humming.  The Flurry of the Blows technique had been his current obsession; and the punching bag had already received a few scars from his practice.  His knuckles were still red from the situation he had been placed in early in the month, where he had been chased and almost killed by people from his past.  It made him realize that even though he was now under the protection of the village; he was still at risk.

Growing stronger simply was the only answer.  Growing stronger also lead him down one path though, and that path ended in darkness.  Once his skills had reached their pinnacle and he faced Morgan, he would only end up killing her, and would do what he told himself he would never do.  The conflict tore at his conscience like wild beasts on an easy meal.  The anger in his heart was difficult to suppress these days, but he managed.  His eyes opened slowly and he observed the bag before him in no particular interest.  The red leather was cracked in places where his powerful hands had struck, and by the end of the day the cracks would have grown.  Unclasping his hands he struck hard with his right hand, sending the bag back a couple of inches before the chains grew taught and the bag returned, shaking slightly; the chains tinkling as it danced.  

Jäger struck with controlled bursts, his arm and shoulder muscles working like a sinewy machine.  Each fibre of his muscles working with perfect harmony with each other and the ligaments and bone.  The strikes bounced the bag and the rain was drowned out by the sound of metal ringing as the bag took blow after blow.  His arms moved in a flash, the dim light of the building making his incredible punches even harder to see.  Coiling his right arm back, he stepped in and struck hard against the bag before rotating outwards around it and striking it again with the back of his elbow.  The bag rattled, but he continued, this time using his left hand to strike out in a flurry of punches, the punches moving so fast that the sound created by flesh striking leather sounded as though there was only one strike, but whomever was struck by such a blow would definitely know that it had been two punches, especially if he chose to do this in his multi-size form.

Jäger lay atop the metal sheet that comprised the roof of his new home, ensuring that he was on one of the more powerful supports of course; and stared up at the galaxies above.  There were things up in the skies above that boggled the mind, and he was desperate to be up there with them, exploring the world from a whole new point of view; observing and learning.  The Soar Whales were merely a myth though, and he had lived nearly half a century without having ever caught a glimpse of such powerful creatures.  Only through rumour had his curiosity been piqued.  The stories of the giant and soulful beasts that came to the aid of humans when they needed it in the long past days, when the beasts were used to quarry and to create amazing constructions when the world was still young and the technology was still unable to achieve such feats.  The Hoshigaki truly felt humbled knowing that he lived in a world where those beings existed, and he was troubled that he could not find any books relating to them.  

A thought did dawn on him though, and he quickly filed through his robe in search of something he had acquired not too long ago.  The book was from a rather rare collection that was written by an extremely intelligent and generous scholar, and it covered many subjects.  More than likely including some information on beasts that may or may not have existed and contributed to the world.  Pulling out one of the heavier books, he examined it.  The leather was thick and old, torn in places that showed it was extremely worn and loved by previous readers.  He would be merely one more in the line of those who would learn from the Loremaster; and there would surely be more after he had learned everything that was contained in the beautiful leather binding.  The scent of the old material was like the sweetest smell, and as he cracked the cover, he gazed at the handwritten notes written on the inside.  

To those who wish to explore the world, they must acquire knowledge.  Of animals great and small; this book reveals them all, how to find them, feed them, and prepare them for a fine meal.  Beware dear traveller; although this book will give you the knowledge you need, it may not provide you with the abilities or insight also necessary to hunt a good many of these animals that prowl this good earth.

The Hoshigaki felt positively giddy with excitement about the information he was going to acquire, then after many hours and days and possibly years of study, he may even meet the beauteous Soar Whale.

The Loremaster believed that creatures in myth were always based on animals that existed and were seen by early humans, which was a common enough belief, but he went beyond that.  He postulated upon the true origins of each creature, giving examples and drawing diagrams of each basis of myth.  As he had scoured this area first; he tried to find any mention of the Soar Whales; but even in the in depth scripture; there was nothing.  For a while, the great Hoshigaki rested the book upon his lap and stared towards the sky again.  How did this so called loremaster not manage to discuss creatures so heavily shrouded in mystery.  The discovery disturbed him for a while; until he continued reading the book, this time starting from the beginning, and he was extremely pleased to find that in the index; the name of the creature he had been searching for appeared.  Of course, finding it's name and finding the creature were two completely different things.  His blue skin tingled, and the hair began to stand on edge as his heart pumped a little faster.  

All over starting from the base of his spine he could feel the pleasurable shiver move across his body.  It took a large portion of his willpower to stop him from rushing to that section of the book immediately; but he managed.  The book was filled with all sorts of information that he could use that was general across all portions of the world when it came to knowledge of animals.  Because of the special region that the Soar Whales existed in; there was sure a lot that the section could teach him.  There was also lots of information he would need to know in order to understand things that were going on in the so called Special Region that also took effect in many places on earth.  This was where his strength truly was at its greatest; immersed in research and discovering secrets of the world.  Having read pages upon pages of the basics that Linus had to say; Jäger was quite disconcerted when his eyes began to blur and the lines became difficult to read.  

The first rays of the sun were crawling above the horizon, and the rain that fell around his small shaded area glowed like diamonds before a fire.  The entire night had been spent entrenched under a large light that hung over the middle of the rooftop, which had allowed the book to remain dry, and gave him enough light to read by.  The flickering had not even interfered his studies.  Tiredness however, certainly did prevent him from being able to continue.  The book was gently closed and tucked into the deep robe for safe keeping.

The picture that had been meticulously drawn into the book with great care was remarkable.  Every detail of the creature that could be captured; was.  Two pages of the book had been set aside for the beautifully penned image.  The moment that he witnessed it; he committed it to memory.  His eyes still weighed heavy from a poor sleep he had gotten, even though he found the hammock that he had chained up - With gratuitous layers of support for his immense frame of course - to be very comfortable.  However, he had skipped straight out into the afternoon rain to once more crack the book open.  The words spilled from the pages and into his mind as though he was starved for information.  The book detailed their habitat, their feeding preferences; which actually contained information that he had learned previously in early chapters that he would have had to try and find in the midst of his searching, which would have held him back.  His patience had been rewarded, and with all the detailed information that he was able to gather from the pages, finding the creature in the wild did not seem so impossible.  

The book continued on to explain about the mating habits and the extreme longevity of the creatures.  Their ancient lives meant that stories of one whale detailed in cave paintings, may also have been the inspiration to many other stories that were closer to this day and age.  Sometimes they were recognizable by their scars or colours; but there were details of Soar Whales that had been raised by humanity and marked to represent a certain clan or country.  One story even spoke a whale that matched the most beautiful skies, adorned by fabric created by the most spectacular tailors.  There had only been sightings of about three hundred of these great creatures, and there were -at least to Linus- eighty seven encounters that had ended with the death of the majestic whale.  Even reading about the stories that happened far before his time; he was quite angered by the actions of his fellow humans.  The sightings of the whales lessened, and the Loremaster believed it had been because of rising threat to the whales, but seceded to the idea that they were not immortal. 

Jäger reached the end of the chapter that detailed the Soar Whale, and knew it was time for a rest, as his mind would not be able to process any more of the Loremasters writing today.  There were many details in the book that he needed to go over and research on his own that would allow him to confirm or refute any of the information given to him.  On top of this, he would need to find the body, or at least information regarding the body of the Soar Whales that had been killed.

Jäger stared at the parchment before him; the tip of the pencil resting on the desk next to it.  The Hoshigaki had been practicing his knowledge, and had taken diagrams from the book of the Loremaster and had began to transpose those into his own notes, doing most of the work by memory, detailing the physicality of the Soar Whales and labelling the diagram.  His work was slow and deliberate, as these notes would one day be referenced by others when it came to learning about the creature, as he was willing to put in as much time as necessary to learn all about the beasts, and when there was nothing more that he could learn, he would aid others in their learning too.  The diagrams on the parchment detailed sections of the beast, from the tail; which had explanations of how the tail controlled the movements and allowed the beast to swim casually; to the mouth and the explanation of how the digestive system worked and allowed the giant creatures to feed off merely insects found that high up. 

The diet of the Soar Whale was an unusual one, as they were possibly the most enormous creatures ever to grace the earth, and yet they sustained their giant bodies with a diet that even the Hoshigaki would probably still be hungry after.  Then again; the activities that the whales usually partook in were not strenuous as they floated above the world, watching and learning.  They were capable of feeding many times during the day in small portions and maintaining their bodies.  Jäger lay the pencil on the desk and leaned back on the durable chair, cracking his back and staring up at the ceiling.  He had learned so much so far; yet he felt that without ever seeing the creatures in person, his learning would become stagnant and he could not progress.  There had been some information gathered by him that notified him of the presence of the body of one that had been killed in the land of Rain years ago.  Instead of feasting on it, they had preserved it and studied it.  He was caught in an ambivalent mood at this fact.  

On one hand, learning about the beast through first hand experience was a greatly vaunted action; but killing and preserving the beautiful creatures for the simple purpose of putting them on show infuriated him.  The only way he was going to be able to come to terms with these mixed feelings was to visit it and discuss it with the curator.  Although there was nothing he could do for the whale, the whale could do so much for him and his education.

The message he sent to the museum requesting his usage of the body of the great whale was responded to with haste, and the Hoshigaki had packed his notes and reading materials up and had been on his way.  The museum was small, and quite cluttered with taxidermy materials along with many other forms of research and preservation materials, it was quite extraordinary for one who had only recently placed so much of his time and interest into the subject since only a short while ago.  Of course he could not hold a candle in regards to knowledge compared to the attendees of this museum, as their knowledge spanned so many subjects and creatures, where his was focussed and driven by a passion to meet a creature he had for so long thought was a myth.  As one of the attendants opened a door for him, the speech he was giving the Hoshigaki was all but ignored as the presence of the great beast of the skies dawned upon him.  His hands grew weak and his file of papers fell to the ground, spilling everywhere.  The scientist remarked and picked it up as the large fishman stared blankly at the body.

"Wow?  Did you draw all these?  They're really detailed"

The surprise and praise took him from his staring and Jäger shook himself and tried to respond.

"Pardon?  Ah, yes, those are what I've managed to transcribe from other drawings and words alone, I would very much like to perform some research on this body to see how close my material was"

The attendant nodded and smiled, and Jäger bowed and allowed the scientist to walk away before approaching the specimen.  It had been removed from the container to allow him to do some work on it, as he had sent some of his research in first to convince them that he was not a random person wanting to perform experiments, but someone who was actively interested in the progression of knowledge of the Soar Whales.  He walked around it a couple of times, which by itself took a while as he examined the physicality of the great creature.  The appendages alone were heavier and far larger than he was, and although the beady black eyes possessed no life, their age was discernible within them.  The mouth of the creature was massive, and there was scaring around it which meant that it had probably gotten into a little bit of trouble at some point, and tried to eat it.  The reason he knew that the scars were not from when it was killed by humans was thanks to the fact that they were indeed scars, and not open wounds like the ones that still existed on its belly. 

Although it pained him to look at it, the wounds were almost as fresh as the day they had been inflicted upon the whale, and he needed to study the flesh and blubber that coated the whale which allowed it to survive the cool weather of such high altitudes, and gave it such a powerful epidermis that was notoriously hardy and difficult to cut through.  If it were easy and the whales were tasty, they would have been merely legends from years ago that humans would have devoured already.

Jäger had needed to wait for the associate to bring in a pair of giant gloves so that he could begin to inspect the body of the creature and divulge secrets about it.  The gloves had taken some time, as there were not many places that possessed gloves that could fit the massive Hoshigaki.  Now that he was wearing them, he prodded the severed skin around the wound, trying to figure out what kind of massive weapon had managed to cause such incredible damage to such an enormous beast.  There were multiple lacerations, and each had gone deep enough to reveal the bones of the ribcage in the chest area, and further down the body, the skin could be moved aside to see the organs within, and even some of the organs had been damaged by the strikes.  The skin had been cut smoothly, which meant it was most certainly a skilled swordsman who was capable of cutting deep into the thick skin, and how the person had managed to make it up into the sky where the whale was, was quite remarkable.  The fact that he knew the whale had been in the sky when the strikes had injured it, was because the lower jaw of the Soar Whale was shattered, as it would have began an uncontrolled descent into the earth.

The poor creature did not have a comfortable end of its life.  It was falling through the sky, badly wounded and scared when death claimed it; which was not a way for anyone to go.  Inspecting one of the larger wounds, Jäger  was forced to use his incredible strength in order to shift the blubber aside in order to peer into the guts of the creature.  The rib cage had been quite damaged from the fall as well, but it was still mostly in one piece.  Some of the ribs had been broken off by the landing, and the rib that was directly above the gash bore a large, and quite deep scar from where the blade had cut into the calcified structure.  Whomever had killed this whale had been incredibly powerful.  Grunting as he pushed the wound open wider, the smell of the bloodied meat surrounded him, and he grimaced at the rising shiver from the base of his spine.  He could not always suppress his bloodlust that was bore from the Hoshigaki ritual, but he did his best.  The organs inside were quite well preserved despite the damage that had been inflicted upon the beast, and they would surely provide him with great insight on the workings of the beast.

The notes that he had been left with by the scientists of the place covered a lot of information gathered from people who had managed to get close to the Soar Whales, and many of the sightings had been documented here, so the information was incredible.  Some even wrote about the sounds that the whales created, the songs they sung while floating, all of which could be used in his hunting.  He was surrounded by everything he would ever need.

The flesh had to be removed in order for him to fully explore the inner workings of the beast.  No one had thought to do it, as the beast had been an exemplary item to have in the museum, and to perform an autopsy on the creature seemed like a waste of revenue to them, and by the time interest arose, no one bothered.  That was at least, until Jäger had stepped into the building and revealed his interest in working on the creature and learning all that there was to be learned about it. Now here he stood, with squares of the whales flesh cut out that were stacked brick upon brick behind him, with a large saw in hand, trying to get into the creature to review its contents.  The bone had proven quite difficult to even catch the edge on, and he had gone through a good many bone saws before he had even managed to start cutting into the ivory material.  Grunting as he sawed, his muscles were getting just as much of a workout as his mind in this research.  No wonder the scientists had not tried, as short of performing some powerful medical cutting techniques, one would not be able to break through its natural barriers.  

With the skin and muscles removed in sections, he had been able to study past them, and looked at the organs, noting the colouration, the size, any physical differences between one another, trying to determine if there had been any diseases or anything that he may catch himself in the midst of it.  Short of being hacked to death, there had been no reason for this whale to die, it had been killed purely out of the benefit of whomever had killed it.  Hunting for fun.  A sickening problem, on any creature, not simply the rare ones.  The organs of the beast were enormous, most of them dwarfing even his large frame, and the heart seemed to be big enough to fit a fully grown man inside, and give him enough room to walk around in.  Jäger would probably have a little more trouble with that, but with some squeezing, he would have been able to fit through the aortic valve that carried the blood from the heart and around the body.  Everything about this creature was simply elephantine, and he wanted to get beyond the ivory cage and into the body of the creature to investigate more.  

Sweat beaded from his forehead as he continued to hack, the blade was getting dulled by the thickness of the bone and he was going to have to switch it out soon.  It took all of his effort to shove it forward, then again to wrench it back so it would saw into the bone.  The sounds of the metal screeching against the skeletal frame was enough to make his skin crawl on each pull, but he squashed the feelings and continued.

With two massive, meaty hands clasped around the bone, Jäger had to squeeze his eyes shut as the next part was a little too disgusting for him to really want to see, and the thought of it happening made him cringe a little bit.  The saws he had used were all in a pile, and none of them had lived to see their task complete, as he had only made it two thirds of the way through, and was going to have to break through the giant bone the old fashioned way.  He squeezed his hands, using chakra to grip, as even his tire sized hands could not grip around the bone.  Pushing it, he tried to see if there was any flex, and to his shock, the bone bent in a little, and the groaning of the bone trying to snap disgusted him.  Every fibre of his being shook at the sound, as it was so readily ingrained in the psyche of every human that the snapping of bone was a noise best avoided.  Relaxing the push, he pulled back, feeling it flex the other way.  The groaning continued, but he ignored the sickness he felt from hearing the noise and focussed himself at his task.  One more massive push, his grunts loud enough to choke out the sound of the bending bone; and the ivory prison bar snapped clean in, bringing the Hoshigaki too.  

Jäger let out a surprised yelp as he fell into the great beast, and had to roll over in a clumsy somersault so as to land on his feet.  The sound of his feet against the wet flesh of the whales lungs a hand slapping a wet stomach.  The smell was coppery and powerful, all other scents were blocked out, even the rubbery scent of the gloves and mask, all he could smell was the blood.  Shaking those thoughts, he knelt and inspected the lung he was currently on top.  There was no air in it, and it was completely deflated, but it was a complex system of veins and arteries, much like humans, only theirs were about the size of a human while deflated.   Although it was a whale after all, and because of the great difference in pressure in the sky, and the air was quite a lot thinner up there and far more of it was needed to breath.  Luckily these creatures possessed a metabolism that could power something so large for such a small cost.  They really were extraordinary creatures, and he was quite pleased with himself for having picked such a creature.

How people had not studied this fascinating creature more was such a surprise to him.  Perhaps because they were so rare and more useful when they were alive, but even when there was something like this sitting here, they had done nothing.  As far as the animal went, he was fairly certain that he had come the furthest in his studies of the creature.  He shuffled his notes and began to draw again.

How many days had passed since his visit to the museum? It had been nearly a week, six days probably.  Jäger could not really remember, it felt like so long ago, and as though he had been in a dream. The papers he had submitted of his study of the Soar Whales autopsy, and information on it was to be held in high esteem at the museum, thus he was quite proud of himself. That situation was over now; and he was back at his home, alone with his thoughts with which he had spent a while meditating on.  His thoughts were elsewhere though; as the events in Amegakure had wound down and the uncertainty that lay ahead worried him, he could simply not find time to think to heavily upon his studies.  This was one of those rare times where he would feel that forgoing study for physical training was necessary to clear his mind.  

There had been nothing for him to attempt that came to mind, so improving his fitness and speed felt like it would be the best and easiest thing for him to do.  Occam's Razor.  Cinder blocks rested in the corner of the room with iron bars cast into them.  Those were his free weights, and each of them weighed quite a sizeable amount, perfect for someone of his stature and strength.  His hands were raw from the pattern of the metal on the re-bar, as it had been cast in order to allow concrete to grip onto it better, but for skin, it was not an easy material to hold painlessly.  The pain was part of his training though, the distraction that allowed him to focus on lifting instead of the weight that was bared down on his muscles.  Sweat beaded down his skin and his breath was shallow, but he felt the adrenaline fuelling his body, coursing through him like a drug. 

The anger towards the loss of the Amekage and his failure to fulfil his promise to the village tore through him like a knife; and this was the only thing he could think of that would help him defuse the bomb that was his rage without harming anyone or anything.  His failure weighed heavier than any physical weight ever could, and knowing this; he felt as though there was no excuse for his body to be unable to carry the weights.  As he once more stood over the weights, he barred his teeth and grasped onto the length of re-bar with the two massive chunks of concrete on either end.  His best estimate of the weight was about fourteen hundred hundred pounds, but he had no tools with which to measure it, but it certainly was not a light weight.  Bending at the knees, he gripped the bar and straightened his back.

Plenty of people assumed that because of his weight, he never worked out.  They were quite incorrect; as he was a fan of the physical labour.  The way he worked out simply happened to be a little different than a bit of cardio and weights.  His workouts of choice were those that pushed the mass and muscle of the body to the max, as he was doing now.  Three of these deadlifts would cause quite a ruckus within his body, and six sets of it would certainly be a great workout.  This was merely his back and his leg workout, there was still plenty left he needed to do before he would have calmed down enough to get his meditation done, the day was still young, and with his burning blood, it would be well into the night before he had finally exhausted himself.
