[Arc 1, Chapter 2][ The Takeover ]
The return home had been much different than what was expected, but I was still unsure if what Mitsurou had told me was the truth or not. In an effort to find out, I found myself atop a skyscraper of the village, one of the few buildings that matched the tower in size and girth. It was raining of course, but the cloak that adorned my figure kept the worse of the water away from my face; the excess that did make it through, would unfortunately find itself having to bypass the crown of ebony atop my head, fashioned into slick and unkempt locks.
Through my binoculars, I peered south toward the tower. It was rather difficult to see, but I had been up here for hours. The usual hustle and bustle akin to the tower had shut down for the night, and the few workers and guards that was left were packing up. But why? This was a nation of shinobi, with a history of war— surely, the Kage understood this— that an attack could come from an enemy nation at any moment. Just what was Lady Taliyah thinking.
In the midst of my mind wandering, the last few workers were taking their leave, confirmed through the chakra seeing capabilities of my Sharingan. When the last of them exited, it was time to move.
My body had already been under the influence of an illusion, and without a Sensor ninja or a way to see chakra, I was all but invisible.
With a leap from my perch, assisted by a little chakra, my body soared across the space between the two buildings, once again using chairs to latch onto the side of it. The Kage's office I had been to before, and that was my destination. A window a floor or two down granted me entry, and I slid inside without any notice.
Surprisingly, the tower was all but empty; another soul hadbuet to cross my path as I made my way through the building. It wasn't long before I found myself atop the door of the office— to say I wasn't nervous would be a lie, but even so, I slowly pushed the doors open and entered. There was nobody.
I approached the desk as quiet as I could, careful to watch out for Amy traps the previous Rain Shadows may have implemented, and opened it. Each drawer was searched one by one, and the deeper I dived into the paperwork, the more and more it looked like Mitsurou was telling the truth. Lady Taliyah was simply a puppet, and had been removed without so much as a notice to the village.
Same with a Jasmine Black, who according to the documents had been the most recent Kage, yet a lot of what was on the paper had been inked out so I could not read. Strange indeed, but there had to be more.
Crimson orbs swam through the mountain of paperwork continuously, and only stopped once I came across a document on the jounin, Emi Hoshigaki. Recognizable by the picture, I knew this ninja— an ANBU who I was fortunate enough to be assigned under during a mission into Fire Country. From what I remembered, Emi was one of the most respected shinobi in all of the village, but the papers said otherwise.. They painted him a criminal, accused of treason, and the murders of many, as well as the kidnapping of the kunoichi Jasmine Black.
Could this have been true? Was he the true criminal here? Could be, but where was he? If his aim was to take over the village, then surely he would have been in power by now as there was no one to stand in his way. I could feel something was amiss, and the Kamizuru royal, after granting him knowledge of such a technique, had no reason to lie to him.
"ah, the missing genin returns", echoed an unfamiliar voice. It had startled me, to say the least, as I was caught off guard, but I immediately would turn to see just who it was. Unfortunately, they were hidden behind an instrument of porcelain, yet the voice was soft and gentle and I could tell it was a female. From the reserves of her chakra, it would've been a long and drawn out battle, but as my Sharingan continued to peer over he countenance, I saw no intent to initiate combat, and released my invisibility.
She would go on to remove her mask, introducing herself as the council-woman Mae Sako. She could see the distrust in my eyes as I reached for the Kyuushi blade upon my back, yet what she said next calmed my nerves. Her words slid into my ears like a poison, yet my Sharingan told me she spoke no lies. She told me of her loyalty to the village, how her comrades had come up with elaborate schemes to remove the Kage from power so they could take control of the village and its assets— she even described in detail what had occurred weeks ago with the jounin Emi and previous Kage Jasmine.I could see she spoke the truth, but I didn't trust her.
My Sharingan would serve to influence her, her will weakened by my Aura of Misfortune for being so close, and I would place her under a suggestion genjutsu. The captain was too strong for me to control directly, but weak enough for me to influence her thinking.
In response, I informed her that from this moment forward, the mantle of Kage belonged to me now.
Before I left, I took a moment to place a permanent Hiraishin(30 charges remaining) seal on the underside of the desk as she informed me of where the jounin was being held prisoner, and emphasized that I would need his help in taking out the council. She also spoke of another ninja, a kunoichi, who she'd met recently that could also be of use. With the names and locations of both written down, it was time to make my leave.I needed not worry about her breaking free of my grip— the power of the Sharingan was absolute.
