Character Depth
Personality:
Appearance:
Protected from the nature and harshness of life for a long time, most children don't get to look like Eri. Her skin no longer smooth and pale, she earned herself a well tanned complexion all over her body that combines with her natural light brown color skin and gives her unique 'bronze' skin. Unlike most children she is little muscular, and has thicker skin on both her hands and feet from climbing rocks and dunes in her childhood, barehanded and barefooted.
Her back is sprayed with silvery pale scars, barely visible unless directly exposed to the Sun, a memory of her misdeeds in her unscrupulous youth and feeling of whip on her back. She even has one small scar across her right cheek, a misguided shot from the said whip that kept her in pain for months.
Still the scars are mostly covered by her wild bushy black hair, resembling lions mane that falls down to her lower back. Only thing keeping her hair from dominating her face is her red, brown and green squared bandanna she has tied around her forehead, putting her face into focus.
Two disks of gold are secured on her head, curious, but also mischievous, with flame of life behind them. She has petite cute nose that is proportionate with her heart shaped face, making her quite a cutey if she were ever to clean dirt from her cheeks and try to be more lady-like.
Outfits:
Being poor Eri is mostly dressed in rags or some light clothes she managed to muster around. Even if she has something decent to wear it's second handed and too big, or too small for her. Still, almost always she evades wearing footwear or socks, gloves or hats. She does have preference on scarves and jackets that cover her scars.

Background:
Her story is not of happy family and joy, her story is not about murder and grieve, she lacked both aspects. She was just abandoned for who knows what reason, crying for hours on the end without any love around her, fearing like any baby would. Destiny that would befit her as kind one was to die there from starvation, destiny she was given was to be adopted. Still it was not a happy adoption as the shadows collected around her.
Countless cruel looking and scary mugs, over dozen of robbers and bandits, cutthroats in short, collected around her. At best they could've sold her to some rich lady who couldn't have children. At worst they could kill her. Still something in their hearts melted with each gaze on the baby and each whisper amongst them and as collective, the gang decided to raise the child.
Over the years Eri grew up amongst the thugs and learned from them, nurtured by ladies of the night at some point, raised by couple of dozen of fathers and uncles. Somehow she was happy and innocent back there, even though she didn't have much. Back then she survived on few coins a week, a week old stew and few unreal dreams.
She was brought up for five years as an innocent child, energetic child, free tomboyish girl. Soon she would've become a full member of the gang.
Smuggler girl:
With her seventh birthday coming along, Keigo, the bandit chief's adopted daughter, started pulling her own weight in their small family. Learning to pickpocket, pick locks, crawl through unimaginable places to break in, those were just some of the lessons she learned at start, but back then it still looked innocent and normal.
Taking care and 'playing' with kidnap victims, sending ransom notes, those were special days, like it would be holidays for normal children. Still in all that she never saw a single glint of evil or harm. Although bandits, nobody ever killed. They fought few times, yes, but she never saw intentional murder.
Still it all ended soon enough. She was sent to smuggle few valuables they gathered, passing through few ninja guards and delivering the items in exchange for decent sum of money, as her life fell apart.
As she returned a raid was performed on the gangs hideout, capturing and cuffing every single member away, her being only exception. She was on her own, alone for the first time since her adoption.
Friend of the Dune:
With no way to visit her friends after months of attempt, Erika decided to move on to somewhere warmer, where she wouldn't die from cold and hunger... maybe just from starvation.
Following convoys, walking down the main roads, she used her 'people' skills to ensure her survival, but soon she was faced with the endless desert where no man was in sight. This was unfortunately her new home for next two years. She hunter scorpions and snakes, collected some amount of water, even drank for cactus. She learned to survive on her own, to hunt, to be alone and forget her trouble. At some point she reverted to bandit and started hunting people near Sand Village to gather food, money was of no interest to her in the natural surrounding. At one occasion she pilfered a small lute mistaking her for a giant piece of beef.
That small lute became her new friend and she dwindled her free time which she had on practicing. Although she never played and didn't know what she was doing, she knew what comforted her and which notes were good.
Still her hunting and playing days were over as soon as the complains toward 'wild girl' reached their boiling point, nobles paying ninjas for her capture and very harsh punishment. It wasn't hard for them to capture her, but to find her it was struggle worth of any hunter.
Ninjas waste three days and three nights of no sleep to capture her and even then they caught her only because she was too tired to run away anymore. She was good at hiding her tracks, she was expert of survival in the wild, she knew what to eat and what not to, so for a non chakra user, she was impressive.
In the end her capture ended with her being whipped, put in the stocks in front of whole village and then being pardoned under recommendation from one of ninjas who tracked her. She was pardoned under condition she would join their school and become one of them, that she would protect the village with her life.
In the end she protected herself by accepting, for it's survival, not pride, that matters.
