Geological Research Institute - GRI
IWAGAKURE NO SATO - Geology Research Institute (Overview
It has been the leader in paleontological excavations and preparation since the First Great Shinobi World War, helping supply museums and collectors the finest in professionally prepared fossils and cast replicas. From the great dragon beasts of legend to the only complete example of the Relancth Behemoth, sailing stones to ammonites to prehistoric crinoids to trilobites, the Iwagakure GRI has not only unearthed many of the most important archaeological finds to date, it has developed cutting edge macro-technology on a scale formerly thought only remotely theoretically plausible.
Much of its staff is actively engaged in the ongoing research of fossil vertebrates, invertebrates, and rare minerals preserved in the great caverns of Chthon. To help accomplish this, it has an extensive reference library that covers a large portion of the vertebrate and invertebrate paleontology from the Iwa No Kuni Interior, along with the geology and mineralogy of not only this region, but other major and minor nations as well.
This of course, is only it's public face.
The institute itself was built near the beginning of Iwagakure No Sato's original establishment; the massive totems depicting archaic gods and squat boorish deities were largely remnants of the underground civilization inhabiting the deep caverns of the 'village' far before shinobi ever existed. The Emma'ho were originally a savage and brutal people, until their discovery of the ability to manipulate elemental chakra that helped preserve the earth that had begun to collapse around their fragile home. Rebuilding and re-educating themselves, the Emma'ho became leaders of philosophical thought, but an ingrained xenophobic reserve prevented them from interacting with the outside world, and sharing their knowledge. They developed macro-technology, a branch of science that developed mechanical energy through the use of mountain-sized carved stones and gears, powered by the geothermic vents that criss-crossed their city like roads of heat. In this way, they were able to build constructions of such complexity and size, that even now, a thousand years later, these relics still stand, testaments to the ingenuity of the past.
Recently the Emma'ho had reemerged from the depths of this ancient relic structure. Once a new tunnel had been excavated and hollowed out, what Iwagakure discovered was a whole underworld with its own political system. Though they do not identify with "surface dwellers" they do show some promise and have accepted a type of peace treaty and an ally relationship. It was found out that the Emma'ho had branched off into three separate sub species of human.
One being Elves, whom are show great intelligence and a keen knowledge of all things ancient. The Elves appear slightly taller than your average human with pointed ears and a bit more of a slender body build. On the other hand there are the Dwarfs who are stout and staky cousins of the elves. Hair seems to grow very well upon their face and even the females. They have a keen ability to work with stone, and an insight for architecture. Then finally the Gnomes, whom seem to be a smaller version of a human. Save for their pointed ears one could not identify them as different from a human child. They speak quickly and have an extreme intelligence for technology.
They built deeper things, hidden objects. They tunneled into the earth, beneath the lower levels of what many conceive is possible. They found secret dark places near the core.
The Geology Research Institute lies inside of the Ishikore Dome, an enclosed underground complex built to expand nearly the entire size of Iwagakure's upper levels. The small man-made lake is fed by a waterfall carrying precious ore throughout the facility. It extends inside and outside of the main building, and can be entered exclusively by travel through large metal doors. The main entrance is startling close to the tip of the highest mountain in Iwagakure. At the top the metal doors are only able to be opened by Iwagakure Shinobi. The doors themselves are guarded by the Anbu Bear Division and if not a Shinobi then one would need special permission from the Tsuchikage to enter. The Iwagakure Tower had sunk into the GRI itself. It is now apart of this underground facility. As if it was always meant to be it stands in the center of the abandoned city as pristine as it was above ground. With the help of the Emma'ho platforms and bridges are being constructed onto the tower itself so that it is connected with the major facilities of the GRI. Above the tower had been covered over by earth and roots. Its as if the Tower was never there and is now within the dome shielding of the GRI.
There is also another entrance that is connected to the Tsuchikage's Tower, which is probably more heavily armed then the entire GRI.
The Dome shielding of the GRI is compromised of heavy metals at about 10 feet thick. It is shielded with chakra so that if any were to touch this metal then it is siphoned off into a generator room. This is to protect the GRI from intrusions from earth users or other techniques. This chakra shielding is actually the base techniques for most Shinobi villages to protect them from the Flying Thunder God (Harashin) technique. If someone truly wished to invade this structure they would need a Gigantic mechanical Drill that can drill through such heavy metal.Facilities
- Point of Interest - Iwagakure No Sato (Underground)
- Training is limited to the areas specifying it.
- Accessible through large metal doors at the top of a mountain in Iwagakure. Doors guarded by Anbu Bear Division.
- ANBU Guards stationed all around the interior of the GRI.
- Any Stone Village Shinobi may enter and use the facilities. Fighting will be discouraged. This is an institute of Learning, Research, and Shinobi Business.
- Specialty Items and Missions can be chosen at the Hill Centre Lab.
- Official Iwagakure business conducted within the Iwagakure Tower itself.
ENTRANCE
The Entrance is old and worn however it is still fully capable of being found by the lead of another shinobi. It is high in the mountains guarded by three AnBu Bear day-in and day-out. As it is in the mountains it tends to be snow covered and chilly. The huge double doors are made of a thick 5 feet heavy metal that has an ingeniuse gravity actuated mechanical mechanism to open it. The locking of this door is much like a vault where huge round pins drive into the supporting structure. It would take a lot to open this 10 meter by 10 meter double door structure. If not a Shinobi of the village you must get special permission to enter.

GRI - Hill Centre Lab
The Hill Centre Lab is the main source of the Institute's considerable success; a separate facility within the massive compound mostly concerned with unearthing strange new materials, gemstones, and defending the land from earth based threats buried too far under the surface to become an issue for the villages larger population. It contains a holding facility for things considered too dangerous for traditional containment, and is fully staffed by experts in nearly every field. Those seeking to imorove Iwagakure or even the GRI iteslf are rewarded. Hill Centre Lab does not pay in traditional ryo, but instead, have their income supplemented by rare precious stones which can be traded for surplus equipment at the Iwagakure Tower.
There is a dilapidated library within this portion of the GRI. Updates and construction are needed to observe a more pleasant reading session. The books in this portion cannot be taken out of the library but can be read within the Hill Centre Lab. The books are guarded by a squad of Anbu Bear, and Owl division. You must check a book out with them to read it there, then return it before you exit the Hill Centre Lab. The cost of the book is taken as collateral until the book is returned. -Subject to change when components are completed-
There is also a laboratory for any chakra orientated business. This laboratory also needs updating and renders no bonuses. In fact the tools and equipment can only be considered improvised because of their outdated statues. -Subject to change when components are completed-

GRI - Training Rooms
The Training Rooms are used by Iwagakure shinobi. They were originally human research facilities but over-time that was deemed inhumane the space was long after left empty. Only after a short period of time and with a lot of cleaning (Even though there is still a lot of litter and rusted metal everywhere) it became a large open space that was quickly rescued and used as a training facility. There is a pool of water, plenty of dirt and means to get just about as much weights as you need. Everything is seemingly rusted and if you take some wrong steps it might be the last mistake you ever make. This area is a simple 100x100 cubed room with plenty of ledges and metal reinforced walk ways.

Fully stocked to the teeth, there's even a sewing machine and a leather press for shoes. Unfortunately many of these things have been out of use for quite some time and at best they can be used as improvised tools.

GRI - Medic/Species research facilities
Thought we were the only species out there? Think again. This research facility dissects and categorizes every specie ever found. Heck the doctors there are so over qualified they can even fix up wounds on regular shinobi as well. Even the kage has been said to make trips here from time to time. The staff are full equipped to the teeth. Most of the money from stone has been put into this one singular sector alone, even though its the smallest. Probably because of the past medical kages or because having the best medicine out there really does put you higher up there then other villages. All-in-all The GRI ends here for basic shinobi and the secret stuff is just getting started.

Capabilities:
Genjutsu Recovery is a complicated matter. It takes time to identify the jutsu that was inflicted, then a treatment must be administered. The treatment is not always perfect, so many attempts may be applied. Furthermore there could be mental damage such as memory loss or the likes that need recovery as well. Thus a stay within the medical facility is needed, and the bill includes the service of the Genjutsu specialist and the stay within the facility.
Any rituals can be performed within the medical facility. This includes Augments, and Restoration (As long as requirements are met). The bill for this is the performance cost of the Ritual. There is no need to pay for the stay within the facility as that is covered within the performance cost of the ritual.

Rituals
IC Days in Facility | # of Post Minimum |
1 | 2 |
2 | 2 |
5 | 3 |
8-9 | 4 |
12-14 | 5 |
Any rituals can be performed within the medical facility. This includes Augments, and Restoration (As long as requirements are met). The bill for this is the performance cost of the Ritual. There is no need to pay for the stay within the facility as that is covered within the performance cost of the ritual.
This portion of the GRI also holds the morgue. Rather than throwing away perfectly good bodies, reaserch is done on them instead. Often medical students come to study bodies in a more personal manner. This has proven to be a far more sutible way than book learning for many Medical Doctors. The bodies are donated from various sources, and a good stock of bodies are always revolving within the morgue itself.
GRI- The Secret Sector
GRI S.S. - Tunnel
This tunnel was among the hardest things to discover about the facility, and it was already well-hidden itself. Within the medical institution, one of the species jars had a secret beyond the mutated animal within. If you were to find a small button hidden on the roof above the tank, invisible against the ceiling, and push it with an approved thumb while no one else was in the room, the glass would slide down with a hiss. Through a clever optical illusion, there would be just enough space between the actual tank and the false glass for an average man to slip through. Sliding down the railing provided, you'd land in the tunnel. The tunnel split into two directions, and walking more then five steps in the wrong one caused a multitude of traps to spring at once. Kunai would fly out, flames would erupt, and nerve gas would spray up from the ground. If you chose the right way, however, then you'd simply continue down a long tunnel, with eyes watching you from every crevice and shadow. This tunnel was discovered to be the beginnings of the Umbra. This is the starting domain of the Emma'ho. From this point on is beyond the jurisdiction of Iwagakure.
To enter the Umbra, exit the GRI (thread) through this tunnel. Once that is complete you will be in the Umbra.
GRI S.S. - Abandoned City
The abandoned city was crafted many years earlier and is mostly used as a war-time city. Although a war has caused the shinobi of Iwagakure to use it, and it is very much needed. Many of the Full-time staff with clearance live in some of the buildings near the center that are more luxurious and have been well taken care of since the original buildings were made. Shinbo housing is allowed for Anbu, Jounin, Sannin, Dignified, and Council members, but the rooms are standard bedrooms. The Anbu Division uses the abandoned houses and abandoned residential for training purposes and war games. Also there are buildings used to house animals and animal companions, otherwise known as stables. Each house has a basic storage, bed, and simple amenities.
A huge Auditorium, dinning area, kitchen, and residential living space is provided for diplomats, or other functions needed by the Tsuchikage to host. Iwagakure Tower, Key to the Abandoned City
Recently due to a civil war the Iwagakure tower had been sunk into the ground. That is went it was discovered that the Tower acted as a key for the entire GRI facility. As if someone turning on the lights power coursed through. The GRI became alive again. A Giant pillar of light shoots from the top of the tower and baths the dome enacting the Shielding system. As the Tower sunk down pathways opened up and connected the tower to the various facilities of the GRI itself.

IWAGAKURE TOWER
[Top down view]
Once Built into the side of the main mountain in which the village resides is the tower for all Iwagakure shinobi. It is here that the ANBU meet, the Kage resides, and Missions are requested. This particular tower was constructed to conceal all knowledge that the tower even exists. The only exits from this tower are at the front, where people enter, and at the very top, to allow for use of the messenger room. There is also a third exit currently not available, but after an event that lead the Iwagakure Tower sink into the GRI it was discovered that a shaft straight from the tower to the village gates was discovered.
This tower had no windows rather it now has metal walkways spiraled around the outside of the tower. This is so that people can come from any facility and travel down to the base of the tower. Artificial lighting is spread throughout the entirety of the tower. There are two elevators that run through the tower. One for the members of the village to use. This leads to the Kage office and the basement floor 1. The second elevator is in the employee section that leads to all floors except for Basement floor 2. The final elevator is connected to the Kage office, and is only used by the Kage and whoever he or she allows to go through. It reaches all rooms through a secret entrance hidden by the stone walls.
Since after the Civil war Occupation movement and the Tower sinking into the GRI new discoveries are being made about the Tower's depths. More Basement levels are still yet to be discovered and are currently under investigation.Ground Level - Top of the tower
Placed on top of the tower, where the surface of the earth meets the very top ramparts. There sits the Alexander Puppet. A colossal puppet used for the defense of the city and the tower itself. No entrance to the tower is given from puppet to tower, but it is there as a show of force. With 2 A class Anbu puppeteers as Guard, it stands statuesque upon the fade of the evening sun. This perhaps a message to all Iwagakure citizens that they are being watched. In servitute there is plenty, but should this be broken, then the wrath of the tower shall darken the streets.Level 1 - Main Lobby
The Main Lobby is on ground level. It is here that the Ninja enter the tower to collect their missions. Most people only go to this floor to speak with the secretaries here that handle the missions and payments. Some report here for other such tasks such as when they have to leave the village. Should one wish to go to another floor, an ANBU escort will take them to the floor of their choosing. The lobby, like the rest of the tower, has stone walls. Paintings cover the walls to make it a little more decorative, but the walls are very mis-shapen. Several people sit behind a large desk to handle the missions requests. Off to the right of the entrance lies a large board to list the missions that the shinobi may pick up along with the rules for each mission.
Behind the mission board is a door with a sign stating “Employees Only.” This is actually the staff elevator as it allows the staff of the tower to go to all floors needed. Behind the desk is a screening room where messages to be sent out are opened briefly and read through to be sure no plans are being given. Anything deemed suspicious is turned over to the ANBU for further investigation and, upon approval from the Tsuchikage, then sent out. Letters to the Tsuchikage or sent from him or herself are sent out immediately. To the left of the main entrance has an elevator with two ANBU guards standing next to it. It is the common elevator as described above.

Anyone who makes the save is immune to all Charm Contagion effects that originated from the same initial performing. The contagion effect also no longer works should the charmed subject happen to talk about the user of their own will.
Limit: Must know the Charm Perception. Must know Charm Monster.Level 2 - Kage Office
Level 2 is the Tsuchikage Office as well as the vault, though few know that the vault exists on this floor. From the main elevator, a long hallway is present before leading to a single door. Upon entering the door, the entrant would notice a mostly circular desk, the only opening being directly behind it, a row of bookcases behind the desk, and three chairs sitting in front of the desk. The desk is for the Tsuchikage to do the tasks they needs to perform. Along the right side of the office is three file cabinets, each with different files related to the village, but nothing too important. Important documents are kept in the vault. The carpet here is a deep purple with the same stone walls as the lobby. Two plants rest to the side of the entrance. A small vase sits on the desk with 8 different flowers in it. The flowers change every 3 days.
Through a special tunnel in the Tsuchikage’s office, the Tsuchikage may enter the vault directly using one of the flowers on the desk. The specific flower changes every single day and after every single use. Should anything else be inserted or any type of infiltration be tried, large blast doors would close over the entirety of the tunnel, preventing people from entering. It is also made with a very strong metal, making it very difficult if not impossible for people to pass by them. The entrance to the vault closes immediately after the entrance from the office and scanners ensure that it is truly the Tsuchikage entering. Only by stating that there is a guest with them and that person’s name before entering the entrance would the scanners not instantly sound an alarm throughout the tower, alerting all to an intruder in the tunnel. The blast doors, once again, would slam shut, possible crushing the intruder(s) and killing them instantly.
The vault has a second entrance from the other side. Using the employee elevator, one may end up on the other side of the vault where an ANBU lies waiting for approval. Only with a signed and sealed note from the Tsuchikage would the other be allowed to enter the vault and the person must sign in, showing that they were there. Cameras are in the vault sending the recording to a setup on the fourth floor, a special room in the Kage office, and the lobby to ensure that if anything happens, it would be caught. Attempts to enter the vault without it being opened by the ANBU guard would cause the large vault door to be locked in several different places and a large metal blast door to close in front and behind the main vault door.
The back wall of the offices shows various pictures. They are either members of the council or still living Dignified Tsuchikages:
Dignified Kages:
- Godaime Jimarai Kotetsu
- Rokudaime Sairo Zassou
Council Members:
- Lady Ophelia Elegant and Mythical.

It is on Level 3 that the ANBU mainly reside. The captains coordinate their subordinates here as well as assign missions to the ANBU specifically. Any who wish to join the ANBU must first speak with the Tsuchikage who will request the captain of the specific division to come down and examine the potential recruit. As the main elevator does not usually lead up here, all ANBU may use either the employee elevator or the main elevator as a special signal is given from their masks to allow entrance into ANBU HQ.
This floor also houses several meetings rooms. The Tsuchikage may hold meetings here or in their office and this is also where the Ninja Council of Iwagakure meets to discuss major plans and current topics of importance. Any new hires to the tower are also interviewed here. Little information of importance is kept here. All employee records and important paperwork is inside the vault. One person who is in charge of this area has a special pass that must be shown along with a DNA sample in order to gain access to the vault. This way, he does not need permission from the Tsuchikage at all times.

Level 4 - Messenger Room
Here on Level 4, the messenger owls of Iwagakure reside. All letters coming in and going out leave through this room. All outgoing and incoming letters are screened down in the lobby, minus those leaving by the hand of the Tsuchikage, or something with their seal. If a message of dire importance is listed, then the message may be screened here and sent to where it needs to go. This is the only thing in level 4 and that is why it is at the top as it is the level of least importance.
Currently there is a large shaft or tunnel used for ventilation. This tunnel is made of metal duct work and is used by messenger birds. It is monitored by cameras for any intrusion and an Anbu stands by to keep watch of messages and any possible intrusions. The ventilation shaft connects down to Basement 1 then through the GRI then finally through the secret Stone Village Gates entrance. Though with the Anbu topside, and the security of that tunnel itself, the security for this is tight.

They control the monitors for whatever security may be placed around the village. The monitors are behind a wall with a one way mirror so those that pass through this room cannot see the monitor room.
So suffice it to say this room that one must pass through has camera's in it to monitor the coming and goings of others. The camera is a Binocular type camera with Thermal detection, Camera Vision, Condition Viewing Vision, X-ray viewing, Substance Locator Vision, Underwater Vision, and Night-vision Vision.
